Passenger seatbelt required to avoid vehicle impoundmen­t

KUWAIT: Deputy Premier and Interior Minister Sheikh Khalid Al-Jarrah Al-Sabah issued a decision to amend law 81/1976, giving police the authority to impound a vehicle or motorcycle in case the driver was caught driving a motorbike without a helmet, using mobile phones by hand while driving, or in case the driver and passengers in the front seat were not wearing seatbelts.

Siren tests

The Interior Ministry’s Assistant Undersecre­tary for Operations Major General Jamal Al-Sayegh announced that the Civil Defense Directorat­e will test run all sirens around Kuwait at 10 am on Tuesday, November 7, 2017.

Armed robber arrested

Intense efforts by security men following a shooting at a restaurant by a person driving a vehicle shortly after midnight Tuesday resulted in the arrest of the suspect within hours. The interior ministry relations and informatio­n security department said the suspect is an ex-convict in drugs and weapons possession cases. An AK-47, a pistol and a shotgun were found with the suspect.

Residency law violators

Residency detectives carried out a raid against domestic help offices in search of residency law violators, resulting in arresting 21 violators of various nationalit­ies. The department received tips about a bogus office that made deals with citizens and residents to provide them with help in exchange of money and gave receipts, claiming it was an registered office. The arrestees all confessed that they do not work for their sponsors.

Forgery

Meanwhile, an expatriate who works as a salesman changed his job designatio­n from salesman to driver but he does not have a driving license. Further investigat­ions revealed that the work permit in which the job was changed was forged. The employee who processed the transactio­n, a citizen, was arrested as he destroyed the original file. Investigat­ions also revealed that the forged work permit was renewed by another employee, also a citizen, who confessed to processing it in exchange of money.

Fires

Kuwait Fire Services Directorat­e said a fire broke out in a Shuwaikh carpentry shop, prompting Shuwaikh and Shuhada fire station to respond and put out the blaze. No injuries were reported. Meanwhile, another carpentry shop in Jahra caught fire. Occupation­al Jahra and Jahra fire stations fought the fire and no injuries were reported.

Crackdowns

Farwaniya municipali­ty emergency team continued its field campaigns in Jleeb and Farwaniya, resulting in issuing 22 citations for using open areas. Meanwhile, head of general cleanlines­s and road occupancy department Saad Al-Khrainej said a field campaign resulted in issuing tickets to 12 roaming vendors, while three frozen goods vehicles, 76 cubic meters of scrap, used clothes and vegetables were removed.

Drugs

A lieutenant was arrested at a checkpoint in Jahra after he was found in an abnormal state with shabu (meth) on him. Jahra police asked him for his ID and when asked to get out of his car, he drove off. He was finally blocked and arrested despite repeated attempts to escape. and was sent to the Drug Control General Department (DCGD). Meanwhile, an Iraqi man and his Syrian girlfriend were caught under the influence of drugs and had illicit tablets on them. A patrol stopped the two for driving erraticall­y. The man who was found as an ex-convict on many drug cases tried to help his companion escape, but failed. Both were sent to DCGD. Separately, Taima police arrested a GCC national in possession of three envelopes containing drugs in Oyoun following a tip from a passerby who noticed the man making indecent acts on the street. A police patrol from Taima responded to the call and arrested the suspect following resistance. He was sent to DCGD along with the drugs.
