Fight Like a Girl - Round 3: A breast cancer awareness seminar
Organized by American Women’s League in Kuwait
The American Women’s League in Kuwait (AWL) in partnership with Activate Event Marketing presented Fight Like a Girl - Round 3, their annual breast cancer awareness event at the Jumeirah Messilah Beach Hotel and Spa on October 28, 2017. Lawrence Silverman, the Ambassador from the United States of America started the event by cutting the Pink Ribbon to welcome guests.
Following welcome speeches from the ambassador and Savino Leone, General Manager of Jumeirah Messilah Beach Hotel and Spa, the famous Kuwaiti fencing athlete Balsam Al-Ayoub stepped onto the stage to welcome guests, followed by a demonstration of a fierce fencing technique, all the while retaining her elegance and femininity in a lovely gown. Fight like a girl, indeed!
Tamara Saab, the noted radio personality, joined her on the stage as the Fight Announcer. AWL and Activate produced an educational fourround battle against breast cancer. Round One saw oncologist Dr Noha Al-Saleh discuss the detection of breast cancer, treatment, and reconstruction options. In Round Two, geneticist Dr Fahad Al-Mulla discussed DNA, including the BRAC 1 and 2 genes. Two breast cancer survivors gave moving and hopeful testimonials in Round Three. The attendees were then treated to Round Four, the musical entertainment and generous exciting giveaways kindly provided by the corporate sponsors for the event.
Commenting on the activity, Leone said: “Social responsibility is a core element of our strategy at Jumeirah Messilah Beach Hotel and Spa and we are proud to support initiatives that benefit people in the local community.
Breast Cancer Awareness Month is a global movement that carries an important message. We believe that as leader in Kuwait’s hospitality and tourism sector we have the capacity to help raise awareness of this emotive cause and it is our social responsibility to get behind activities. I take this opportunity to congratulate the American Women’s League Kuwait on their constant efforts to make a difference. We can all do something for the betterment of our communities.”
