Kuwait takes part in Asia conference

KUWAIT: Assistant Foreign Minister for Asian Affairs Ambassador Ali Al-Saeed chaired yesterday Kuwait’s delegation participat­ing in the Asia conflict prevention and Peace building conference, which is being held under the auspices of Korea’s Foreign Ministry.

Deputy Foreign Minister of the Republic of Korea, Chairman of the United Nations Peacebuild­ing Commission Cho Hyun, opened the conference, which is attended by senior officials and experts on issues of peace and stability in Asia. At the opening of the conference, Hyun stressed the importance of efforts by countries to support the efforts of the UN SecretaryG­eneral to achieve lasting peace and stability in the conflict areas through the political management of the heads of state and UN mechanisms.

Most important pillars of peace building are the peaceful settlement of disputes and the promotion of economic developmen­t efforts, he said. He expressed his country’s appreciati­on for Kuwait’s participat­ion in this conference at a high level reflecting the depth of the friendly relations between the two countries. Meanwhile, Ambassador Saeed held important meetings on the sideline of the conference with officials from the Korean Foreign Ministry, the most important with the Korean government envoy to the six-party nuclear talks on North Korean nuclear issue.

Kuwaiti Ambassador to the Republic of Korea Bader Al-Awadhi, Advisor in the Department of Asia Affairs Mohammad Al-Hajri, Consoler at the Embassy of Kuwait to the Republic of Korea Nawaf Al-Saeed and the Third Secretary of the Embassy of the State of Kuwait to the Republic of Korea Mohammad Al-Huwaila as well as the Diplomatic Attache of the Department of Asia Farah Al-Fahad participat­ed at the meetings.
