Canada-Kuwait Friendship hockey tournament

-

2017 marks the 150th anniversary of Canada’s Confederation as a nation. To honor this historic milestone, the Embassy of Canada to the State of Kuwait invites you to attend an evening of Canada’s national sport and favorite pastime - Hockey! The Embassy of Canada, in partnership with the Kuwait Winter Games Club, will hold a friendship hockey tournament between the Kuwait National Team and Kuwait’s Canadian community. The tournament, beginning at 6pm Sunday November 12th at the AlSour Street ice rink, is open to the general public on a first come, first seated basis.

Hockey’s immense popularity throughout the world truly symbolizes Canada’s national identity and unique northern culture. First played as an organized sport on March 3, 1875 at Montreal’s Victoria Skating Rink, hockey has grown into a major international professional and Olympic winter sport, watched and enjoyed by countless millions. Thanks to the efforts of the Kuwait Winter Games Club, Kuwaitis too have embraced hockey. Over 600 Kuwaitis currently play the sport and the Association arranges many hockey training camps as part of its annual program. Kuwait also participates nationally in varied programs and tournaments with the International Hockey Federation. The recent creation of a women’s team is further evidence of the sport’s growing popularity in Kuwait. Please come and join us this Sunday for an exciting and fun-filled evening!
