Assembly panel rejects screening foreigners at airport
KUWAIT: Head of the National Assembly’s Legal and Legislative Committee MP AlHumaidi Al-Subaie said that the panel rejected a draft law calling to screen foreigners on their entry at the airport saying it breaches the constitution. Subaie also said the panel rejected another draft law calling to bar the entry of those who make religious abuses, saying that it is not in line with the country’s law and is incomplete.
The legal and legislative committee’s duty is to ensure that draft laws and proposals submitted by lawmakers are in line with the constitution and other Kuwaiti laws before sending it to the concerned committee for discussion.
Subaie said that the bill on foreigners is incomplete and objectionable since it includes every expatriate who arrives at Kuwait Airport like investors, tourists and normal visitors. He said there are United Nations laws that prohibit such screening for all and that it contradicts with the Kuwaiti constitution and laws.
He said the panel may have approved it had it only covered certain groups of expatriates like laborers or those coming from an infected country but it cannot be applied to all since it could have the suspicion

of discrimination. The other draft law wants that all those who abuse the Almighty, the companions and wives of the Prophet (PBUH) be barred from entering Kuwait. Subaie said the bill is incomplete since it does not include abusing prophets and that is why the committee rejected it. MP Riyadh Al-Adasani meanwhile said that the country’s finances and its assets abroad are in good shape, quashing reports that Kuwait’s fiscal reserves abroad dropped from $592 billion last year to just $528 billion this year. The lawmaker said that reports about losses of the Kuwaiti assets are untrue.
