-

KUWAIT: The Egyptian horse beauty contests kicked off Friday as part of the ongoing Kuwait National Festival for Arabian Horse 2017, which is sponsored by His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. The event is organized by the Arabian Horse Center, also known as Bait Al-Arab - Kuwait State Stud, with participation of 220 purebred Arabian horses of Straight Egyptian bloodlines.

The contests started by holding qualifications for newborn horses, aka foals, followed by age categories for female and male mares, usually one to three years-old, and for mares and stallions, older than four years, at the Arabian Horse Center. The festival saw a record participation by Arabian horses, particularly mares and stallions, said Alaa Al-Roumi, Chairman of the Board of Trustees at the Arabian Horse Center.

Roumi projected fierce competitions by the participants during qualifications, especially after implementing the new scoring system, adding that only first and second place winners will be qualified to the finals.

Friday’s competitions also saw a large number of beautiful looking horses, particularly young mares and stallions, which reflected the good preparations by Kuwaiti horse breeders taking part in the event, he said.

Roumi also valued His Highness the Crown Prince’s sponsorship of this year’s festival, noting that the second festival of horse beauty contest will kick off in two weeks. The Arabian Horse Center will continue supporting Kuwaiti horse breeders, whose number keeps on increasing year after year, he said, adding that such a development is a positive impact on this authentic Arab sport. —KUNA
