ABB unveils YuMi for first time in Kuwait
ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, recently unveiled YuMi for the first time in Kuwait at the Embassy of Switzerland. The event was inaugurated and hosted by the Swiss Ambassador to Kuwait Aldo De Luca.
The subsequent afternoon, YuMi was presented in Holiday Inn Salmiya to students from Kuwait University (KU), Australian College of Kuwait (ACK), American University of Kuwait (AUK), American University of the Middle East (AUM) and Gulf University for Science and Technology (GUST) who learned about the latest technologies and internet of things. In the evening, the robot was showcased to potential customers.
YuMi heralds a new era of robotic coworkers that are able to work on the same tasks with humans while still ensuring the safety of those around it. YuMi is a collaborative, dual arm assembly solution with the ability to feel and see. Safety is built into the functionality of the robot itself so that it can work cage-free.
Kuwait - a country that relies heavily on expatriate labor in its growing manufacturing sector - can benefit greatly with the use of robots and automation. The introduction of robots into manufacturing have proven to be incredibly cost-effective with no degradation of quality or reliability. Moreover, the implementation of robots have often delivered return on investment (ROI) in 12 months or less. The subsequent cost savings allow companies to focus on customer attention and invest in innovation.
Paul Dennis, ABB Country Manager said, “YuMi is the most innovative and intuitive robot available, for many day to day industrial and commercial applications the limit of its usefulness will only be limited by human imagination.”
ABB is a leader in power and automation technologies that enable utility, industry, and transport and infrastructure customers to improve performance while lowering environmental impact. The ABB Group of companies operates in around 100 countries and employs about 145,000 people.
