Burgan Bank supports ‘Int’l Day of People with Disabilities’
KUWAIT: Burgan Bank, one of the highest contributors to progress in society, recently sponsored ‘The International Day of People with Disabilities’ for the third time in a row. Hosted by the ‘Ideal Education School’ for students with special needs, the annual event promotes an inclusive environment that acknowledges the efforts of people with disabilities and encourages their invaluable role in the society.
As a strong supporter that seeks to enrich Kuwait’s communities through added value initiatives and social aid, Burgan Bank showcased its solidarity by applauding the students’ hard work and participation in various entertainment programs. The event that took place on 29 November 2017, displayed the special needs students’ handmade arts and crafts prepared during the year.
The annual platform is designed to present an open avenue to social engagement and advancement for people with disabilities and ensure their concerns and contributions are appreciated. Strengthening their identity in society, the event helps reiterate each individual’s equal right to participate fully in every aspect of social and cultural life.
Ideal Education School, a private school, was started as a result of a parent initiative. It teaches students aged 5-21 with developmental disabilities such as autism, Down syndrome, mental retardation, speech and language impairments, hard of hearing, cerebral palsy, and those with multiple disabilities. The School aims to provide education and support services to students with special needs to help them develop their maximum independence through educational programs that include vocational training, community awareness and advocacy.
Burgan Bank has a long proud history of supporting similar initiatives starting with its largest special needs program, ‘Al-Mass Awards’ that ran for over 13 years of honoring and recognizing outstanding special needs across various activities. When it comes to promoting national talent, the bank has always been a prominent patron of Kuwait’s world champion in wheelchair fencing Tareq Al-Qallaf and his exemplary achievements at regional and international competitions. Additionally, Burgan Bank dedicated six fully-equipped branches to cater to the special needs requirements to ensure a banking experience with improved accessibility and the latest world-class technological applications.
Burgan Bank’s support of this initiative falls under its dynamic full-fledged community program entitled ‘ENGAGE’ - Together to be the change. This program sheds light on important aspects affecting every segment of the society by promoting social welfare through educational, cultural and health driven initiatives. Burgan Bank’s approach to ‘ENGAGE’ begins with a vital principle that as a leading Kuwaiti financial institution, its conduct and policies should be aligned with the needs and interests of the community.
