Speaker welcomes GCC parliamentary councils’ heads
KUWAIT: Speaker of the National Assembly Marzouq Ali Al-Ghanem welcomed yesterday GCC parliamentary councils’ chiefs who attended part of the parliament’s ordinary session. Ghanem asserted the deep-rooted ties between the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries in the social, geographical and historical domains. He recalled the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait back in 1990, hailing the distinguished GCC countries’ remarkable contribution in the liberation of Kuwait, which reflects the unity of the Gulf region.
The Gulf summit, as well as the 23rd Arabian Gulf Cup that were held recently in Kuwait constituted a great opportunity to boost the unity among the GCC countries, which would reflect positively on the security and stability of the region, he affirmed.
Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Anas AlSaleh welcomed the GCC parliamentary councils’ chiefs, wishing that this meeting would contribute to the reunification of the Gulf peoples.
Ghanem accompanied heads and members of the delegations who participated in the 11th meeting of GCC legislative councils in an inspection tour of the National Assembly headquarters. Ghanem briefed the visiting delegations on the new building of the members of parliament and construction and modernization projects of the facility.
The 11th meeting of the heads of the Gulf legislative councils was held on Monday under patronage and presence of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. Following the meeting, the GCC speakers expressed gratitude to His Highness the Amir for sponsoring and attending the event. In a letter to His Highness the Amir, who holds the rotating presidency of the GCC Summit, the top MPs thanked His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad for the hospitality and his guidance and vision. They expressed sincere wishes that Kuwait enjoyed progress and prosperity under the leadership of His Highness the Amir.
Human resources
At the conclusion of the meeting, GCC parliament speakers have affirmed the importance of the nationalization of jobs and investment in human resources of GCC member states. In their final communique, the conferees called for the implementation of nationalizing jobs at GCC states, calling on Kuwait’s National Assembly to implement, in coordination with GCC secretariat, activities and events pertaining to this topic. They commended His Highness the Amir’s speech in the opening session, affirming the importance of its contents. They said the speech comes to emphasize the significance of keenness on coordination and consultation with all different levels, with the aim of overcoming challenges facing the joint Gulf march in light of surrounding situations. His Highness the Amir stressed in the speech that the collective action is the way to face the Gulf challenges and maintain gains and accomplishments, the speakers added.

the topics listed on the meeting’s agenda. They were briefed on measures taken to enhance relations with foreign parliaments and parliamentary unions, directing to continue work so as to boost the outstanding ties, according to the communique.
They asked the GCC secretariat, in coordination with Kuwait’s National Assembly, to fulfill mutual visits between GCC member states’ parliaments and the European Parliament. GCC parliament speakers were also apprised of member states’ visions and experiences on “threats of terrorism and terrorist organizations, and means of countering them. They finally sent cables of thanks and appreciations to His Highness the Amir and His Highness the Crown Prince for hosting the meeting, warm reception and hospitality as well as good organization of the meeting, which contribute to making the event a success. — KUNA
