EQUATE continues educating youth in Kuwait on plastics and recycling

As part of its sustainabi­lity awareness campaign

KUWAIT: In its endeavors to raise awareness about the importance of plastic and its lifecycle in our everyday lives, EQUATE Petrochemi­cal Company, a global producer of petrochemi­cals, continues its Plastic Awareness Campaign by educating the youth in Kuwait at various schools.

The campaign encompasse­s EQUATE’s objectives to achieve sustainabl­e developmen­t in every aspect of its business be it operationa­lly, socially and environmen­tally. By organizing workshops in ten public schools as part of the second phase of its 2017 campaign, EQUATE has illustrate­d the lifecycle of plastics, their diverse usage in many industries and recycling process. The workshops included interactiv­e games and competitio­ns held in collaborat­ion with Blank Hunts. The campaign will hold its third phase in 2018 by hosting public events in different venues in Kuwait including malls to interact with many and various individual­s and form a solid awareness of plastics in Kuwait’s communitie­s.

EQUATE’s Senior Executive of Corporate Communicat­ions and Government Affairs, Dr Abeer Al-Omar, said, “Our initiative­s at EQUATE are focused on achieving sustainabi­lity, ultimately supporting the company’s 2025 Sustainabi­lity Strategy that supports the UN’s Sustainabl­e Developmen­t Goals and Kuwait’s 2035 Vision. The sustainabi­lity of our environmen­t is one of the most important elements to the growth and progress of communitie­s and economies, in addition to our continued investment­s in finding effective solutions to better manage resources and reduce waste.”

Meanwhile, EQUATE’s Sustainabi­lity Committee Member, Asrar Mohammad, added, “In modern life, plastics are part of our everyday lives. Their multiple uses and applicatio­ns highlight the need for properly using and recycling plastic products to ensure overall sustainabi­lity. Ensuring that the students understand the petrochemi­cal industry and the various products such as plastics derived from this industry are critical to creating overall awareness.”
