Police probe domestic helper’s assault case
Airport officer helped passenger evade travel ban
KUWAIT: Detectives are investigating a video in which a woman orders her children to beat an Asian maid, ignoring her pleas and cries. A clip that went viral on social media shows the woman asking the domestic helper to close the door so that the shoes can hit the target, Al-Rai reported yesterday. The video received a barrage of criticism from citizens and expats, who sympathized with the helper.
Airport officer arrested
Airport detectives arrested a citizen named Fahd Hamad Zayed who works at Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Airport passport department after he helped an Egyptian named Mahmoud Abdelaziz Hashim leave the country despite a travel ban imposed on him. Zayed confessed to receiving KD 700 for allowing the expat to leave. He was sent to the public prosecution.
Drug possession
Highway traffic police stopped a car that was moving from one lane to another in a suspicious manner. Police found the driver is a 32-year-old Kuwaiti, who was not able to control the car. Police searched the person on the passenger’s seat; a 31-year-old Kuwaiti. They found suspicious substance with them. The driver also attempted to escape and fiercely resisted police.
Electronic passport
The Interior Ministry’s Assistant Undersecretary for Nationality and Passports Maj Gen Sheikh Mazen AlJarrah Al-Sabah said citizens who need an electronic passport can access the ministry’s website at www.moi.gov.kw and apply for an appointment to obtain the passport, as well as details of the place, date and time of the appointment. He said the website was upgraded to reduce crowds and make things easier for applicants.
Salmiya fire
Salmiya and Bidaa fire stations battled a blaze in a women’s tailoring shop in the basement of a Salmiya building. Firemen evacuated the building and prevented the fire from spreading.
Policeman attacked
Two citizens and a Saudi were sent to concerned authorities for attacking a policeman and damaging state property. A statement from the interior ministry said the policeman spotted the first suspect driving a car recklessly without license plates, and during an attempt to stop him, he rammed the patrol car. The second and third suspects then arrived in another car and attacked the policeman. Separately, four persons were arrested in Sabahiya for attacking policemen, resulting in injuries on both sides. A policeman was taken to hospital for treatment.
Attacker arrested
A Kuwaiti youth who attacked a traffic police officer in Sulaibiya was arrested at the orders of Maj Gen Ibrahim Al-Tarrah. A video clip showed the reckless driver attacking and beating the officer. Another person - a bedoon - who helped the suspect was also arrested.
Smuggling foiled
An Asian man was sent to concerned authorities for attempting to smuggle around 4.350 kg of marijuana. Officers discovered strange objects in his luggage, so it was physically searched and the drugs were found.
