1,337 arrested in statewide crackdowns

KUWAIT: General security police carried out several campaigns in all Kuwait governorat­es from Feb 4 to 10, resulting in the arrest of 1,337 persons. The campaign was under the supervisio­n of Acting Assistant Undersecre­tary for General Security Affairs Maj Gen Ibrahim Al-Tarrah. Meanwhile, 247 persons wanted over felony, civil and absconding cases and 676 violators of residency law and without IDs were arrested, 31 wanted vehicles were impounded and 86 were held on drugs cases and two over liquor cases, in addition to arresting 38 loose laborers. Police also dealt with 288 fights, 1,779 calls for assistance and 1,209 vehicle accidents.

Airport traffic

Statistics indicate 2,171,961 passengers departed and arrived through Kuwait Internatio­nal Airport during Jan 2018, according to the Interior Ministry’s Relations and Security Informatio­n Department. It said 536,142 GCC citizens arrived and departed, while the number of arriving and departing citizens reached 922,433. Meanwhile, the number of passengers from other nationalit­ies reached 759,619.

The number of visas issued at the airport was 14,319, while 85 people were found to have been previously deported after they were fingerprin­ted. Five people were arrested with forged passports, while 112 fugitives were sent to concerned authoritie­s. Fourteen people were allowed into the country after removing deportatio­n restrictio­ns on them, while 11 were not allowed to enter.

Stores closed

Kuwait Municipali­ty’s public relations department said inspection campaigns by its Farwaniya emergency teams resumed recently to check for violations, adding that campaigns in Hasawi resulted in closing 14 stores administra­tively. The tour was carried out by inspectors to enforce the rules and regulation­s set forth by the municipali­ty on violators, Team Leader Ahmad Al-Shareeka said.
