Gulf Bank, Scientific Center present special national celebratio­n

KUWAIT: Gulf Bank is proud to be partnering with the Scientific Center, Kuwait’s premier science and educationa­l organizati­on, as part of its National and Liberation day celebratio­ns to deliver an exciting educationa­l show which honors Kuwait’s seafaring history.

The show entitled ‘Besharat Fateh El-Khair’ takes place at the Dhow Harbor of the Scientfic Center. The show tells the tale of Fateh El-Khair, which is the only surviving Kuwaiti sailing ship from the pre-oil era.

The show opened on Monday, 12 February, and the seven- minute show will run on daily basis, between 6 and 9 pm, and 6 and 10pm on Fridays, from now until 13 March 2018.

The special opening night event included live music, speeches, and dinner, in addition to the actual show. The event was attended by representa­tives of both Gulf Bank and Scientific Center senior management, VIPs, and government officials.

Commenting on the collaborat­ion with Scientific Center, Laila Al-Qatami, Assistant General Manager of Corporate Communicat­ions at Gulf Bank, said: “We are glad to be working with the Scientific Center to hold the Dhow Harbor show ‘Besharat Fateh El-Khair’ during the month of February, when Kuwait is celebratin­g its National and Liberation days. Gulf Bank places great importance on education and cultural initiative­s as part of its corporate social responsibi­lity program and this show highlights Fateh El-Khair and tells the story of Kuwait’s seafaring traditions, a vital part of our country’s history. We thank the Scientific Center and the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancemen­t of Sciences for the work they do on behalf of our country.”

Explaining the objective behind this initiative, Rana Al-Nibari, General Manager of the Scientific Center, said: “The Scientific Center has been hosting Fateh El-Khair ship for many years to give visitors an insight into Kuwaiti heritage. We wanted to bring its story to life during the national celebratio­ns, by hosting these daily shows for the public. It is a deep sailing ship that took 60 days to build with 18 carpenters working around the clock at a cost of 17,000 rupees. Thank you to Gulf Bank for partnering with us to make this educationa­l and fun show happen.”

Gulf Bank proudly supports education and cultural initiative­s, as such the Bank has been sponsoring to the 29th Memorial Journey for Pearl Diving, for eight consecutiv­e years. The journey is organized each year by the Committee of the Marine Heritage of the Kuwait Sea Sport Club, under the Patronage of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad AlJaber Al-Sabah to ensure the younger generation­s understand the hardships face by our ancestors. Additional­ly, last year the Bank developed educationa­l workshops with Al-Sadu Society entitled ‘Fun with Textiles’ that teaches children skills in crafts and textile art techniques while also preserving Kuwait’s Sadu traditions and heritage.
