Amir congratulates Kuwaiti oncologist on promotion
Medical nuclear center earns American accreditation
KUWAIT: His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah AlAhmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah yesterday congratulated Kuwaiti physician Wadah Al-Refai on his ascension to the position of regional director of the oncology department at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital in Washington DC.
His Highness the Amir expressed his well wishes in a cable he sent to Refai, who has also been named deputy president of MedStar Georgetown University Hospital’s center for surgical research. His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf AlAhmad Al-Jaber AlSabah and His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah sent similar messages to the Kuwaiti doctor.
In other news, His Highness the Amir received at Bayan Palace yesterday His Highness the Crown Prince, as well as His Highness Sheikh Nasser AlMohammad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah. Meanwhile, His Highness the Crown Prince received His Highness Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad, Sheikh Salem Abdulaziz Al-Saud Al-Sabah, as well as Governor of Mubarak Al-Kabeer retired Major General Ahmad AlRujaib, accompanied by the local governorate’s administrators.

Separately, a health official has affirmed significance of the quality accreditation granted to the nuclear medical center of Kuwait Cancer Control Center by the American Radiology College. Dr Kholoud Al-Ali, director of the center for combating cancer, said in a statement the certificate is one of the most prestigious ones at the global level. The center has recently earned an identical accreditation from Europe. Meanwhile, Dr Farida Al-Kandari, head of the radiology center, said the center had acquired all the specifications required by the international certificate of high quality.
In the meantime, the Kuwait Chemical Society announced plans to organize the Fifth International Chemical Conference under patronization of His Highness the Amir. The event takes place on March 12-14, Haidar Bahbahani, the society’s chairman, said at a press conference yesterday. The conference aims at shedding light on role of scientists and researchers in chemistry. One day ahead of the event, the society plans to host a meeting for the Union of Arab Chemists, during which the chairmanship would be shifted to Kuwait.
The society’s deputy chairperson Huda Al-Nassar said meanwhile that an exhibition would be held on sidelines of the convention. Dr Hassan Al-Rabiaa, head of the conference scientific committee, said up to 250 scientists and researchers from Kuwait and foreign countries would partake in the event. Head of the media commission Hamdan Al-Ajmi said that the conference official inauguration would be attended by Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr Hamed Al-Azmi.
