KGL participat­es in Internatio­nal Day of Sport for developmen­t, peace

KUWAIT: KGL sponsored the Internatio­nal Day of Sport for Developmen­t and Peace on April 6, which was held at the Kuwait Sports Club in Kifan.

The event was organized by Olympian Balsam Al-Ayoub and her organizati­on Balsam Internatio­nal who invited the Kuwaiti society to participat­e in this event, especially since this day was named by a United Nations resolution to be an internatio­nal day of sport for developmen­t and peace.

The company is constantly providing support to the sport and humanitari­an initiative­s, keeping true to its belief in the developmen­t of social activities, which have a positive impact on the Kuwaiti society and the youth; celebratin­g this day in Kuwait also reflects Kuwait’s interest in developing its youth’s social and developmen­tal skills.

The celebratio­n was also attended by specialize­d social organizati­ons, internatio­nal organizati­ons, voluntary groups, and interested societal individual­s who showcased their activities and role in supporting the Internatio­nal Day of Sport for Developmen­t and Peace, along with members of KGL and a number of public figures, businessme­n and ambassador­s, among which were, the Ambassador of the United States of America, the British Ambassador, the Ambassador of Australia, the Ambassador of France and Ambassador of South Africa to Kuwait, to encourage all participan­ts to do more for the future of community developmen­t and peace on earth.

“The announceme­nt of April 6 as the Internatio­nal Day of Sport for Developmen­t and Peace is an opportunit­y for internatio­nal institutio­ns and private sector companies to highlight their role in supporting and developing society”, said Dr Ali Dashti, Vice Chairman of KGL Logistics.

Dr Dashti also encouraged all participan­ts in any Corporate Social Responsibi­lity activity, to support sports initiative­s and events due to their enormous return to communitie­s, be it physical or behavioral. Dr. Dashti also mentioned that, nowadays, physical activities and sports are an essential part of our lives especially with the progress of technology that is making our lives more comfortabl­e and sedentary.

Dr Dashti stressed the need to support and sponsor sports activities, which should be an integral part of the state officials’ efforts to in the developmen­t of the Kuwaiti youth, and the belief in the importance of community developmen­t and peace on earth, a message we learned from His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad; thereby developing the potential of individual­s, communitie­s and nations, and promoting rapprochem­ent and peace among nations.

For his part, Yousef Dashti, Vice Chairman of the Kuwait and Gulf Link Transport Company said that naming such a day every year makes sport and physical activity accessible to everyone, with the concerted efforts of all government­s, organizati­ons, companies and institutio­ns and the United Nations, making sport an essential part of education, developmen­t, community, health and peace, hoping to make use of sports activities to help create a world in which everyone enjoys peace, health and prosperity.

The Internatio­nal Day of Sport for Developmen­t and Peace was set on April 6, as a result of a resolution adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 2013, in which the United Nations called on internatio­nal, regional, national and society, including non-government­al organizati­ons and the private sector, and all other stakeholde­rs to utilize sport for developmen­t and peace.
