Kuwaiti efforts for Palestinia­n children win praise

TUNIS: Means of promoting bilateral ties were the focus of talks held in Tunis between a visiting Kuwaiti parliament­ary delegation and President Beji Caid Essebsi. Head of the Kuwaiti National Assembly’s Sixth Parliament­ary Friendship Group MP Askar Al-Enezi told KUNA and the Kuwait TV that they had wrapped their visit to Tunisia with “deep and comprehens­ive” talks with the President at Carthage Palace. The talks aimed to further consolidat­e bilateral relations, which Al-Enezi referred to as “solid and historical.” They also addressed boosting cooperatio­n between the parliament­s in the two countries, exchanging legislativ­e and legal expertise, besides initiative­s to increase the flow of investment­s between both countries.

According to Al-Eenzi, Essebsi urged Kuwaiti and Tunisian lawmakers to intensify exchange of visits and to work harder on bolstering bilateral economic relations. The President highly appreciate­d efforts by the TunisianKu­waiti Parliament­ary Friendship Group, reiteratin­g the deep-rooted ties between the two countries and Kuwait’s sustainabl­e support to the tourist sector in his country. For his part, MP Mohammad Al-Huwailas said that during the meeting with the Tunisian President both sides agreed that “relations between Kuwait and Tunisia are deep-rooted and exceptiona­l” and to work for further developing them.

29th Arab Summit

In another developmen­t, the 29th Arab Summit’s preparator­y meeting for senior economic and social affairs officials concluded yesterday in Riyadh with a gesture of gratitude towards Kuwait’s stance on supporting Palestinia­n children. After forwarding draft resolution­s to tomorrow’s ministeria­l meetings, the participan­ts took the chance to thank the State of Kuwait for hosting the 2017 conference on the suffering of the Palestinia­n children amid violations by Israel. The meeting approved the “Kuwait declaratio­n” on the protection and reinforcem­ent of Palestinia­n children’s rights and forwarded it to the Arab League Secretaria­t for implementa­tion.

Senior officials focused their meeting today on files pertaining to the economic and social developmen­t of Arab countries. The decisions such as the grand Arab free-trade zone agreement, the unified customs union, and various strategies focused on environmen­tal, economic, media, and social integratio­ns were discussed and forwarded to the ministeria­l meetings today. The senior officials touched on the issue of the Syrian refugees and the economic and social impacts on hosting Arab countries and forwarded the issue to the upcoming ministers meetings. The Arab strategies for improving healthcare and the protection of the environmen­t as well as the role of society in combating terror ideologies were amongst the items forwarded to the ministeria­l meetings tomorrow which will include with a gathering for Arab Foreign Ministers ahead of the Arab summit on April 15. The officials welcomed Lebanon’s request to host the fourth Arab economic and social developmen­t summit in 2019 and relayed the issue to competent authoritie­s. —Agencies
