Cultural Office signs deal with Babtain Library
CAIRO: President of Kuwait Cultural Office in Cairo Dr Ahmad Al-Mutairi and Director of Al-Babtain Central Library for Arabic Poetry Soad Al-Ateiqi signed a protocol of cooperation on Sunday evening. The protocol will give momentum for the efforts aiming to revive the cultural movement across the Arab region, Ateiqi said during the signing ceremony. She noted that Al-Babtain Library plays a major role in meeting the aspirations of the Arab intelligentsia for the advancement of the study of humanities, through organizing various cultural events. “Al-Babtain Library is keen on contacts with prestigious libraries inside and outside the Arab region,” she said, noting that the library dedicated more than 150,000 books to friendly libraries.
Ateiqi added that the agreement falls in the framework of the Library’s appreciation of the cultural and diplomatic roles of Kuwait Embassy in Cairo, noting that the embassy hosted a ceremony to commemorate the achievements of Abdulaziz Saud Al-Babtain, a celebrated Kuwaiti poet.
On a similar note, Dr Mutairi said the Cultural Office acts as a Kuwaiti cultural beacon in Egypt and seeks to advance the literary and artistic creativity. “The Office plays an active role in the publication of books and magazines such as Al-Arabi and ‘Aalam Al-Maarefa’ (the world of knowledge)” he said. “Under the protocol of cooperation, Al-Babtain Library will provide the Library of the Cultural Office with copies of its literary publications in return for copies of the literary master and doctorate theses,” he added, noting that library of the office houses more than 11,000 books and 1,600 theses in various subjects of knowledge. Mutairi and Ateiqi opened a section for Al-Babtain Library at the Cultural Office. —KUNA
