The Green and Clean conference and exhibition opens at JACC
‘Kuwait is keen to develop and improve the environment’
KUWAIT: Under the patronage of HH the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber AlSabah and attended by Minister of Public Works and Minister of State for Municipal Affairs Hossam Al-Roumi, the Green and Clean conference and exhibition was held yesterday at Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Cultural Centre (JACC). The event is organized by the Leaders Group Company for Consulting and Development in collaboration with the Environment Public Authority.
“The environment today has become a sensitive and important issue where action is needed to limit global warming. Kuwait is keen to develop and improve the environment, and is witnessing great efforts from officials to protect it. They are working in accordance with the system of green construction in the country,” Roumi said.
“All ministries and companies are concerned with the environment, especially after the new environment law and the implementation of the Kuwait Integrated Environmental Information Network and multilateral environmental agreements for the achievement of internationally agreed environmental goals including the 2035 agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals. This is what we should focus on in future projects, and this is one of the plans of Vision 2035,” the minister added.
“Our relationship with the environment must be good because it affects our lives, our health, our future and the resources of our economy. In this respect, attention must be paid to the sustainable environment where Kuwait is starting to work on several projects that fall within the green economy, such as projects to increase natural habitats up to 11. Also, we have the national project for clean industrial production, the environmental fuel project, the use of solar energy, recycling of solid waste and more,” Roumi said.
“The Green and Clean conference and exhibition was organized to spread awareness of the importance of environment. We appreciate seasonal initiatives that care about the environment, but negative phenomena that are harmful to this environment are a concern. These phenomena push us to make more efforts to clean the environment and pay attention to it,” said Nabila Al-Anjari, General Manager of Leaders Group.
“Despite the nature of the desert of Kuwait, we have to make our environment beautiful and green. Many countries have achieved this goal with lesser potential. The problems of desertification, the environment and climate in general have become a universal concern. No matter how many summits are held locally, regionally and globally, their results remain incomplete if not accompanied by a local national movement that cares to change to a clean and green environment,” she explained.
Deputy Director General for Technical Affairs at the Environment Public Authority (EPA) Mohammad Al-Anzi affirmed that the care of HH the Amir reflects his great interest in making the environment better and emphasizes the challenges that the issue represents at all local and international levels. “The protection of the environment is the future of mankind. The lack of attention to the environment has led to air pollution, global climate change and millions of deaths. The costs of pollution are estimated at $4.6 trillion a year, equivalent to 6.2 percent of global economic output,” he warned. The two-day forum includes several working and discussion sessions with the participation of senior officials, academics, experts and representatives of scientific and academic institutions.
