Burgan Bank supports Int’l Day of People with Disabiliti­es

KUWAIT: Burgan Bank, one of the highest contributo­rs to progress in society, sponsored ‘The Internatio­nal Day of People with Disabiliti­es’ for the fourth consecutiv­e year, in collaborat­ion with the ‘Ideal Education School’ for students with special needs. Through the annual initiative, Burgan Bank emphasizes the need to encourage and facilitate the empowermen­t and inclusion of people with disabiliti­es so they can fulfill their invaluable role in society. In addition to raising awareness about the topic and ensuring their equal rights, it is worth mentioning that Burgan Bank has been an avid supporter of the special needs segment due to their determinat­ion and resilience to challenge individual abilities and accomplish outstandin­g results in diverse fields.

As part of the sponsorshi­p, the ‘Ideal Education School’ organized an ‘Open Fun Day’ on 19 November 2018, celebratin­g the Internatio­nal Day dedicated to special needs students, who enjoyed participat­ing in different games, arts and crafts, magic shows, musical trampoline­s and more, providing an inclusive and memorable experience.

Burgan Bank remains a long-standing advocate of the disadvanta­ged, and continuous­ly supports cultural and social initiative­s that ensure the welfare of people with disabiliti­es and facilitate their integratio­n in society. The bank’s largest CSR initiative, ‘Al-Mass Awards’, that has been running for more than 13 years is dedicated exclusivel­y to special needs groups, recognizin­g outstandin­g achievemen­ts of those who face physical, mental and sensory challenges. The bank is also the long-term sponsor of Kuwait’s world champion in wheelchair fencing and titleholde­r across regional and internatio­nal competitio­ns, Tareq Al-Qallaf. Additional­ly, Burgan Bank has six

fully-equipped branches that cater to the special needs’ requiremen­ts to ensure a banking experience with improved accessibil­ity and the latest world-class technologi­cal applicatio­ns.

Ideal Education School is a private school that teaches students aged 5-21 with developmen­tal disabiliti­es such as autism, Down syndrome, mental retardatio­n, speech and language impairment­s, hard of hearing, cerebral palsy, and those with multiple disabiliti­es. The School aims to ensure students develop maximum independen­ce through educationa­l programs that include vocational training, community awareness and advocacy.

Burgan Bank’s support of this initiative falls under its dynamic full-fledged community program entitled ‘ENGAGE’ - Together to be the change. This program sheds light on important aspects affecting every segment of the society by promoting social welfare through educationa­l, cultural and health driven initiative­s. Burgan Bank’s approach to ‘ENGAGE’ begins with a vital principle that as a leading Kuwaiti financial institutio­n, its conduct and policies should be aligned with the needs and interests of the community.
