Charity launches poverty relief project in Tunisia
The Kuwait-based Direct Aid Society yesterday delivered food aid worth $327,000 to some 10,000 impoverished families across northwestern Tunisia. The Kuwaiti initiative reflects the amicable relationship between both countries, the Gulf state’s ambassador to the North African nation said. He highlighted such endeavors as crucial to usher in development in Tunisia, promising the Kuwaiti charity will continue to carry out such projects. “We have grown accustomed to Kuwait’s humanitarian endeavors,” said the governor of Tunisia’s Ariana governorate Mukhtar Nefzi, pointing out that Kuwaiti charities have been Tunisia’s biggest benefactors. The Kuwaiti charity recently sent teams to assess the scope of aid needed in Tunisia’s northwestern areas, according to the director of the charity’s Tunisia office Saad Al-Mdalal.
Separately, Prime Minister of Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Nechirvan Barzani hailed the Kuwaiti humanitarian aid for displaced people and refugees in the Kurdistan region. This came during a meeting between the Prime Minister and Kuwaiti Consul General to Irbil Dr Omar Al-Kandari, KRG said in a statement on Monday. During the meeting, the two sides discussed strengthening relations between the Kurdistan Region and Kuwait in various fields. Barzani expressed his sincere gratitude to Kuwait, topped by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah AlAhmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, for securing the delivery of such aid to the region. Meanwhile, the Kuwaiti consul praised the efforts made by KRG to host large numbers of displaced people and refugees, stressing that Kuwait will continue to provide support and assistance to Iraq and the Kurdistan region. — KUNA
