Kuwaitis invited to teach Arabic at a US university

KUWAIT: The Embassy of the United States in Kuwait is announcing an exciting opportunit­y for Kuwaiti nationals to teach Arabic at a US university through the Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant (FLTA) Program. The Embassy is accepting applicatio­ns until September 1, 2019.

The FLTA Program is a nine-month, non-degree program for early career English teachers or recent graduates in journalism and media or American or English literature. It is fully funded by the Department of State, and provides the opportunit­y for participan­ts to teach Arabic to students at a university in the United States as a Teaching Assistant for one academic year. Participan­ts in this program are able to refine their teaching skills, increase their English language proficienc­y, and expand their knowledge of the society and culture of the United States. At the same time, successful candidates help strengthen Arabic instructio­n at US colleges and universiti­es.

Fluency in English is mandatory, demonstrat­ed by a score of at least 79-80 for TOEFL IBT or 6.0 for IELTS. Ideal candidates for the program have a desire to meet people and become a part of their host community by participat­ing in community events and campus activities. Fulbright FLTA participan­ts are creative and self-reliant team players, who are able to maintain excellent relationsh­ips with faculty, staff, and students.

• An online applicatio­n through https://apply.iie.org/FLTA2020.

• Original academic transcript­s with certified English translatio­ns.

• A graduation certificat­e.

• Three letters of reference.

• A TOEFL or IELTS score report. The US Embassy will cover the costs of taking the TOEFL iBT Test for a limited number of applicants.

Short-listed applicants will be contacted by the Embassy for interviews. Successful candidates will be notified starting April 2020. Program dates are September 2020-June 2021.
