Eid perfect time for families to come closer

- By Faten Omar

KUWAIT: Kuwait Times spoke to some people to learn about how they will spend the Eid Al-Adha holiday.

Tala Al-Muhtaseb, 18, told Kuwait Times that Eid is an important religious festival in Kuwait. “Eid is a festival that spreads the message of peace and love to the whole world. Muslims wait for this time of the year to gather with their families and celebrate Eid together. We start the first day of Eid by praying, embracing and greeting each other. Other than gatherings, everyone loves Eid because of the money we get from the elders. Eid is a holiday in which families have the opportunity to form closer bonds with each other,” she said.

“The first thing I do on Eid is go to the mosque early in the morning for Eid prayers. After that, I go back home to dress up and style my hair, since I visit my relatives. To be specific, I’ll be visiting my maternal grandmother’s house, where my relatives will gather to have lunch and socialize with each other. The kids look forward to receiving money from the elders,” Tala said.

On the second day of Eid, Tala likes to hang out with her friends and watch a movie at The Avenues, then eat her favorite meal of steak at Entrecote. “On the last day of Eid, my parents and I like to spend time together at Babel, a Lebanese restaurant in Salmyia, to have lunch and chat with each other. Then my mother and I like to continue the day shopping at The Avenues,” she said.

Mostafa Mahmoud Salem, 34, spends Eid with family and friends. “The first day is always for the family. Then I hang out with friends all night in cafes and restaurants,” he said. Salem noted that the rest of the days of Eid will be spent between entertainment places with his children and eating at restaurants and cafes.

Ahmad Hassan, 26, said he heads for Eid prayers held outdoors early in the morning, then has breakfast with his family at home. “The first day is considered a must day for family gatherings. We will visit relatives, then I will go out with friends to have lunch and roam around Kuwait in the car. I will be spending the rest of Eid with the usual routine Marina Mall, Avenues, cinema and lastly, at the chalet,” he said.
