Suad Al-Sabah’s Hall opens at University of Calicut
The Department of Masters and Research in Arabic Language and Literature at Al-Farooq College in cooperation with Al-Ansar College in the Indian city of Calicut held an international workshop entitled: Arabic Language and Literature as a Functional Approach. Dozens of students competed and the prizes were distributed to the winners. The ceremony was held in the presence of Indian Member of Parliament Dr Abdul Wahab, Dean of Al-Farouk College Dr Naseer and University Leaders Dr Mariam Al-Shinasi, and Deans of Al-Ansar. Attendees praised Dr Suad Al-Sabah’s initiative in promoting and developing the Arabic language in India.
Abdul Wahab, a member of the Indian Parliament, delivered a speech in which he praised the college’s efforts in encouraging Arabic language and motivating students through competitions and activities. The Dean of Al-Farooq College praised the competition and thanked the sponsors. Dr Ali Nofal said that a delegation from the college had the honor of meeting Dr Suad AlSabah in Kuwait, a meeting that resulted in this cooperation between the publishing house of Suad Al-Sabah and the college, wishing it to continue annually.
Dr Abbas KB, a professor of Arabic and supervisor of the competition, said that the competition was intense among the students, where they presented their best desire to win, and before that out of love for the Arabic language. On his part, Director of the House Ali AlMasoudi delivered a speech in which he stressed the pride of the poet Dr Souad Al-Sabah in Arabic and her bias among the languages of the world and her keenness to encourage her wherever she was, expressing her happiness with the great efforts of the college in teaching the language according to a serious and profound curriculum.
On the following day, Al-Masoudi gave a lecture titled: Suad Al-Sabah, a lighthouse on the Gulf, in which he reviewed Dr Suad Al-Sabah’s march from childhood till date, recalling some historical events and variables in the region and the Ottoman-British competition that brought about some political issues affecting the people, the migration of the people of Kuwait and Najd to the city of Zubair.
Reviewing the rule of the sixth ruler of Kuwait Sheikh Mohammed Al-Sabah grandfather of the poet, and then the story of the marriage of Sheikha Suad Al-Sabah cousin Sheikh Abdullah Al-Mubarak and how he resigned from all positions in the state and his departure and his family to Beirut and then Cairo and London. Dr Suad AlSabah got her master’s and doctorate, and the lecturer spread some personal events that affected the psychological and intellectual approach of Dr Suad’s work, including the early loss of her father and mother in one year and then the death of her eldest son Mubarak.
Al-Masoudi explained the great impact of the presence of Abdullah Al-Mubarak in the poet’s poetry. On the third day of the conference, Suad Al-Sabah Hall was opened for educational purposes at Al-Farouq College, which was established to facilitate the teaching of Arabic language to the college students according to the requirements of the electronic age. Dr Ali Bin Hanifa, a member of the Consultative Council in Sharjah, delivered a speech commending Dr Suad Al-Sabah for his efforts. Kuwait has always been a leader in giving and serving science and learners in the Islamic world, recalling its support for the development of the educational process in the early days of the UAE.
The Dean of the College also delivered a speech in which he expressed his happiness at the opening of the hall, which will make a qualitative leap in the college. The Head of Arabic Department said that the department will be more effective in such initiatives. On the last day, AlAnsar College in Calicut hosted the conference guests who presented a number of research papers, including the work of Dr Suad Al-Sabah’s poetic march, and Dr Mariam Al-Shinasi presented a cultural competition for students, where her questions focused on Dr. Suad AlSabah’s literary career. The delegation also visited the AlAnsar College Library, which includes a section called Suad Al-Sabah, where it donated a large number of publications to the college.
