PM, Speaker committed to separation of authoritie­s

KUWAIT: His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled AlHamad Al-Sabah and Speaker of the National Assembly Marzouq AlGhanem stressed yesterday the importance of discussing ways to implement the leadership’s supreme directives and means to enhance cooperatio­n with the heads of the judicial, legislativ­e, and executive authoritie­s to better serve the country in the upcoming phase. This came in a statement to the press after a meeting between His Highness the Prime Minister and Speaker Ghanem.

In his statement, His Highness Sheikh Al-Khaled said “Our meeting comes in implementa­tion of the directives of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah in his meeting with the heads of the three authoritie­s where he urged them to uphold the constituti­on and activate Article 50, which deals with the separation of the two authoritie­s with their cooperatio­n.” He expressed his thanks to Speaker Ghanem and his happiness to meet him and hoped to continue meetings in the future. His Highness the Prime Minister also referred to the fruitful visits he paid to the heads of the other authoritie­s where he “found every interest in cooperatio­n in the next phase and the desire to implement the directives of His Highness the Amir during the next phase.”

Meanwhile, Speaker Ghanem described the meeting as “an excellent start” where both sides discussed several aspects of the futuristic relationsh­ip between the legislativ­e and executive authoritie­s. Ghanem said he was honored to meet with His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled, and renewed his congratula­tions to His Highness the Amir on his confidence in appointing him as Prime Minister and assigning him to form a government.
