WHO praises Kuwait’s response to pandemic

DOHA: The Regional Director of the World Health Organizati­on (WHO) Dr Ahmad Al-Manzari praised the measures taken by Kuwait in response to the novel coronaviru­s (COVID-19) pandemic, describing it as swift, decisive, and inclusiven­ess. The remarks came in an interview Saturday on the sidelines of an online discussion session held by Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Developmen­t under the title ‘Towards a Flat Curve: The Global Response to Coronaviru­s’. Manzari stressed that Kuwait has strong and well-establishe­d health systems and has qualified medical personnel in addition to highly equipped health facilities. He said that WHO is in regular contact with the health leaders in Kuwait, led by the Minister of Health Sheikh Dr Basel Al-Sabah, adding that there are high-level coordinati­on and constant consultati­on on the procedures recommende­d by the organizati­on in accordance with the developmen­t of the pandemic. The Regional Director also praised the generous support recently provided by Kuwait to the organizati­on to combat the pandemic, while expressing the organizati­on’s thanks and appreciati­on to Kuwait for its continuous support that enables the organizati­on to reach health care services to the neediest groups, especially in the areas that suffers from health emergencie­s. On his evaluation of the process of using blood plasma from those recovering from the virus to treat patients, Manzari affirmed that this process was tried and showed initial success. He stated that the organizati­on does not recommend self-medication, either as a means of preventing or treating the disease, adding that there are several clinical trials underway. Internatio­nal speakers and audience from all over the globe participat­ed in the session, discussing the challenges and hopes related to fighting the coronaviru­s.
