How to renew your driving license online

A step-by-step guide for renewal during the pandemic

KUWAIT: Driving without a license is a major traffic violation in Kuwait that can result in fines and even deportation. Be sure to check the date of your driving license’s validity and make sure you renew it before it expires. The interior ministry’s traffic department recently launched an online renewal process for driving licenses to help those whose licenses expired during the current period of extraordinary circumstances created by the global pandemic and the government shutdown.

Here’s the step-by-step process for renewing

your driving license.

1. The applicant must visit the interior ministry website. Applicant should already have a driving license and valid residency visa in Kuwait. Website: www.moi.gov.kw

2. Click on the icon indicating traffic department. Then click the online renewal tab for driving license.

3. If you had visited and signed-in previously, you will be automatically directed to the online driving license renewal page. Enter your username and password. Then you may start the renewal process.

For first-time visitors, you are asked to signin and fill out an application with personal information.

You will need:

- civil identification number

- reference number (the reference number is on the back of the civil ID card. You can also find it on old iqama stamps, and any previous traffic violation notices.)

4. You will then be directed to your personal record at the traffic department. It will show your traffic violations, if any. You must pay these before you can renew your license.

In case of any traffic violation, click the payment icon and pay through local banks using your local bank card. Follow the easy instructions for payment - it will only take a few seconds to complete the transaction. Be sure to take a screenshot or printout of your payment receipt.

If there are no violations, you may proceed for the driving license renewal.

5. The fee for the renewal of the driving license is KD 3 for three years’ validity. You will be directed to a payment screen. Be sure to take a screenshot of the payment. After payment, the screen will show the successful transaction and your license will be ready for pickup in a few days.

NOTE: The validity of driving licenses for Kuwaitis is now 15 years, while foreigners are given three years’ validity. Pickup of renewed licenses during the current circumstances is subject to announcements.
