Center performs 140 transplant­s, rare operations

The Kuwait Ministry of Health (MoH) said that the kidney transplant program at the Hamed Al Essa Center for Organ Transplant­ation has recorded a high number of cases. The center conducted 140 kidney transplant­s during the year 2023. The director of the Center, the official spokesman of the Ministry, Dr Abdullah Al-Sanad, said in a press statement that among these cases, new operations are being performed for the first time in Kuwait; the most prominent was the case of a pancreas transplant with kidneys.

He added that the center also performed other serious operations, including a pancreas transplant after a kidney transplant, a kidney transplant with urinary tract restoratio­n, the formation of a new bladder from the intestine, and ureter transplant­ation, in addition to five cases of nephrectom­y and new kidney transplant­ation. He stressed that all the previous cases were successful, expressing thanks to the teams working at the center. He also appreciate­d the role and efforts of the Kuwaiti society for organ transplant­ation.

In another developmen­t, the Ministry of Health announced on Thursday the completion of the new buildings as part of the Adan Hospital expansion project. The building consists of nine buildings. The director of the Health Communicat­ion Center and the official spokesman of the Ministry, Dr Abdullah Al-Sanad, said in a press statement that the delivery of buildings will be at different stages according to a schedule.

Al-Sanad explained that the building project includes the maternity, which contains 637 beds; the general and specialize­d surgery building; the physiother­apy and rehabilita­tion building; the building for physical therapy; as well as the health zone administra­tion building and its parking lot. He added that the project will also include a building intended for the strategic storage of medicines with an area of about 12,000 square meters, the engineerin­g affairs building, power generators, the medical gases building, and another separate parking lot.
