Kazakhstan wins mixed doubles at trap event

KUWAIT: The mixed doubles trap event of the Asian shotgun championsh­ip took place yesterday resulting in Kazakhstan winning through shooters Alisher Aisalbayev and Mariya Dmitriyenk­o.

While second place went to Iran through Mohammad Beyranvand and Marziyeh Parvaresh. Third place was shared by China through Yuhao Guo and Xiaojng Wang and Kuwait through Naser Meqlad and Shahad Al-Hawal. A special award was given to the youngest shooter from Iran who won the individual gold medal and qualified for Paris 2024 Olympics.

Sheikh Salman after the awarding ceremony thanked HH the Amir Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad AlJaber Al-Sabah for the major support in holding the shooting championsh­ip, as he always presents all that is necessary for this sport of heritage, as shooting has made many achievemen­ts in the name of Kuwait, and most importantl­y made Olympic achievemen­ts as well.

He said there is no doubt that Kuwait’s organizati­on of the Asian Shotgun Championsh­ip is very important due to having quota place for Paris 2024 Olympics, and at the same it has a large Asian gathering, and for the first time the number of participat­ing countries reached 26 federation­s. This is something we are proud of, and we thanked the organizing committee and President of Kuwait

Shooting Sport Federation Eng Al-Otaibi and all those who worked for their efforts.

He said the tournament began with an outstandin­g opening, and the trap events, as things are moving highly organized. He said Asian Shooting officials are impressed with the ranges of Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Olympic Shooting Complex which has all the internatio­nal features.

Thanks for our country Kuwait for hosting the event, and thanks for sports officials in the government who contribute­d to the success of this event. The skeet event will start today followed by an unofficial training and competitio­ns on Thursday.
