Embassy of Vietnam celebrates Lunar New Year, UN recognitio­n

KUWAIT: On January 26, the Embassy of Vietnam in Kuwait hosted a reception at the Al-Kout Beach Hotel (where the first Vietnamese coffee shop is located) to celebrate the Lunar New Year, on the occasion of the holiday - getting its recognitio­n from the United Nations. The reception welcomed people from the Vietnamese community, ambassador­s, UN representa­tives and other dignitarie­s in Kuwait.

As one of the Asian countries celebratin­g the Lunar New Year festival, which often falls on late January and early February each year, Vietnam has its own traditions and customs that have been practiced through many generation­s. Coming to the reception, guests got the chance to taste traditiona­l cuisine served by the Vietnamese chef, Hieu Le and have calligraph­y writings from Hoang Ngo – who is staying in Kuwait for an upcoming art exhibition.

The reception was also lit up by performanc­es from the Vietnamese students who are studying the Arabic language in the Kuwait University. Thanking the Vietnamese community for supporting the Embassy’s work in the past years, Ambassador Ngo Toan Thang reiterated the importance and meaning of the Lunar New Year – also known as “Tet” – which is to reunite family members and look back on the achievemen­ts and memories in the past year.

Ambassador Ngo Toan Thang took the time to send his best wishes for the upcoming Lunar New Year, hoping that the Vietnamese community will contribute to the developmen­t of Kuwait, proudly representi­ng the home country in the area, contributi­ng
