Cairo Book Fair registers record-breaking number
CAIRO: The Egyptian Ministry of Culture announced on Sunday that the Cairo International Book Fair achieved record-breaking number in its 55th edition, with over three million visitors after three days of its opening. The Minister of Culture, Dr. Nevine Al-Kilani, affirmed in a statement that the significant crowd attendance at the fair marks a promising start, indicating the exceptional nature of this edition of the fair’s history, reflecting its importance, cultural impact, and artistic content it offers to the public, in addition to maintaining progress and developments in diverse fields.
Furthermore, Dr. Al-Kilani added that the number of visitors on the third day reached 404,931 people, praising the interest of the Egyptians and their eagerness to receive “cultural nourishment.” She also acknowledged their awareness of the value of knowledge for bettering and building societies.
The current edition of the book fair is held from January 25th until February 6th in Cairo’s International Exhibition Center under the sponsorship of the Egyptian President, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, with the slogan, “We create knowledge, we preserve the word.” Kuwait’s participation in the fair includes an impressive pavilion with publications from the Kuwaiti Ministry
of Information, the National Council for Culture, Arts, and Letters (NCCAL), the Center for Research and Studies on Kuwait (CRSK), and many more.
NCCAL publications
Publications of the National Council for Culture, Arts, and Letters (NCCAL) have a long history of attracting the interest of Arab visitors, an official said on Saturday. This came in a statement to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA). NCCAL’s book fairs department and Kuwait International Book Fair participated in the 55th session of the Cairo International Book Fair (CIF).
He said that CIF is one of the oldest and largest cultural forums in the Arab world, noting that it is an important platform where Arab and Gulf cultures meet. About NCCAL participation in CIF, AlEnezi said that the council offered publications such as “Al-Arabi Magazine,” “Alam Al-Fikr” (World of Intellect), “Ebda’at Alamia” (World Creativities), “Al-Thaqafa Al-Alamia” (World Culture), “Al-Athar Books” (Antiquities Books), NCCAL special editions, and books by Kuwaiti authors.
He pointed out that demand for book sales reflects the interest of visitors and readers in learning about Kuwaiti culture, especially NCCAL publications. The Cairo International Book Fair kicked off on January 25 under the slogan “We create knowledge, we preserve the word” and will continue until February 6 with the participation of 1,200 publishing houses from 70 countries. — KUNA
