Kuwaitis can apply for ETA for UK travel

In a landmark developmen­t, marking the 125th anniversar­y of Kuwaiti-British diplomatic relations, British Ambassador to Kuwait Belinda Lewis announced the initiation of the Electronic Travel Authorizat­ion (ETA) for Kuwaiti nationals. This historic milestone not only celebrates a century and a quarter of official diplomatic ties but also introduces a forward-looking initiative to enhance the partnershi­p between the two nations.

As of Thursday, Feb 1, 2024, Kuwaiti nationals, along with citizens from other Gulf Cooperatio­n Council (GCC) countries and Jordan, can apply for the ETA. The authorizat­ion becomes effective for travel to the UK on or after Feb 22, 2024.

The ETA, priced at a modest £10 (approximat­ely KD 4), opens up opportunit­ies for unlimited short trips to the UK. This includes visits of up to six months for tourism, family and friend visits, educationa­l purposes, business activities or as a transit point to another destinatio­n. The ETA remains valid for two years or until the expiry of the passport used for applicatio­n, whichever comes first.

Distinguis­hing itself from its predecesso­r, the Electronic Visa Waiver (EVW), the ETA boasts the advantage of multiple uses over the two-year period and is not tied to a specific flight. This flexibilit­y is expected to make short trips to the UK more convenient and spontaneou­s for Kuwaiti travelers.
