Kuwaitis can apply for ETA for UK travel

In a landmark development, marking the 125th anniversary of Kuwaiti-British diplomatic relations, British Ambassador to Kuwait Belinda Lewis announced the initiation of the Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) for Kuwaiti nationals. This historic milestone not only celebrates a century and a quarter of official diplomatic ties but also introduces a forward-looking initiative to enhance the partnership between the two nations.

As of Thursday, Feb 1, 2024, Kuwaiti nationals, along with citizens from other Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and Jordan, can apply for the ETA. The authorization becomes effective for travel to the UK on or after Feb 22, 2024.

The ETA, priced at a modest £10 (approximately KD 4), opens up opportunities for unlimited short trips to the UK. This includes visits of up to six months for tourism, family and friend visits, educational purposes, business activities or as a transit point to another destination. The ETA remains valid for two years or until the expiry of the passport used for application, whichever comes first.

Distinguishing itself from its predecessor, the Electronic Visa Waiver (EVW), the ETA boasts the advantage of multiple uses over the two-year period and is not tied to a specific flight. This flexibility is expected to make short trips to the UK more convenient and spontaneous for Kuwaiti travelers.
