KEPS youth team on environmental awareness trips
KUWAIT: Eng Abdul Aziz Al-Muhanna, member of the Board of Directors of the Kuwait Environment Protection Society (KEPS), said the society’s environmental spring program for field training include a series of field visits organized in cooperation with many parties to introduce the Friends of the Environment youth team to environmental issues and projects. Most recently, the society organized a field visit to the Abdaliya Reserve of the Kuwait Oil Company (KOC).
The visit comes as part of many scientific awareness trips, including field training and field workshops, which the society began with a trip to the Jahra Reserve. Muhanna stressed that the visit of the Friends of the Environment team to the Abdaliya Reserve enhances awareness of Kuwait’s fungal life and educates the group about protecting and preserving the organisms.
The team also participated in planting seedlings of the Arfaj plant, which is the national plant of Kuwait. The activity was accompanied by an introductory lecture on the importance of the plant and its medicinal uses. Muhanna praised the efforts of KOC and Abdaliya Reserve officials for helping the KEPS in raising awareness and educating its young team members.
He said the society has launched the Friends of the Environment team, which is made up of Kuwaiti youth of both genders aged 8-18 years old, “out of its social responsibility towards promoting voluntary environmental work and spreading the correct environmental knowledge among society groups, especially young people.” “The association instills in them the value of environmental citizenship, as they are qualified and prepared to engage in voluntary environmental work,” he said.
