Expert emphasizes on patience and patient’s psychological health
A member of the Board of CAN Campaign, Dr. Hessa Majid Al-Shaheen, said a lecture was held within the activities of the ninth joint Gulf Cancer Awareness Week themed “We are with You” under the patronage of Health Minister Dr. Ahmad Abdulwahab Al-Awadhi. The lecture titled “And give good news to the patient” was held at the CAN premises in Qadisiya by a member of the teaching faculty at Kuwait University’s Islamic Studies College, Sheikh Dr Khalid Shujaa Al-Otaibi, in the presence of several women who survived cancer.
Sheikh Dr. Al-Otaibi emphasized the importance of patience from the religious aspect and its role in strengthening the patient’s psychological health, and he concentrated on the meaning of patience and its pillars. He said there are three pillars without which patience will not exist. The first is refraining from anger against the inevitable, not complaining, and not taking actions that may anger God. So if you are tested, be patient and do not complain against your Lord for his creation because He is more merciful than them.
He said patience is bitter, but its results are sweeter than “honey,” as it has been said. Among the benefits of patience are God’s help for the patients, unlimited rewards, the removal of all sins, and the blessings of God, as mentioned in the holy Quran: “And give good news to the patient. Who, when a misfortune befalls them, says, Surely we are Allah’s, and to Him we shall surely return. Those are they on whom are blessings and mercy from their Lord, and those are the followers of the right course.”.
The lecture was characterized by interaction by the audience, which benefited from the information Dr Sheikh had given them. It is worth mentioning that the lecture is part of many activities the Cancer Aware Nation organizes on the occasion of the 9th Gulf Cancer Awareness Week. CAN earlier opened a clinic for awareness and early detection; it held an exhibition on February 2nd that aimed at raising awareness of the initial symptoms and prevention of many cancer types.
