The culture of peace

- By Nermin Al-Houti local@kuwaittimes.com

The third forum on Just Peace was inaugurated earlier in Egypt, organized by the Abdulaziz Saud Al-Babtain Cultural Establishment in cooperation with the Egyptian Ministry of Culture, under the patronage of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. On February 20, the forum commenced with the distinguished presence of renowned dignitaries at the political, cultural and literary levels. In addition to the elite group invited by the Abdulaziz Saud Al-Babtain Cultural Foundation to participate in the forum, each of these dignitaries deserves not only recognition but an entire encyclopedia, given their significant scientific and practical achievements.

Our focus is on the sessions and papers presented by researchers and speakers for the cause of just peace. Following the opening ceremony, characterized by peace and a culture of inclusivity, I extend my thanks to the Abdulaziz Saud Al-Babtain Cultural Foundation for their excellent organization and warm reception, which is consistent with the high standards set by the late Abdulaziz Saud Al-Babtain’s legacy.

The forum’s first session commenced after the opening ceremony, discussing “peace and political development”, divided into two parts. The first part centered on the “competencies of government administration and development,” featuring participants Sir Tony Baldry from England and Dr Mohammad Al-Rumaihi from Kuwait. The session included many suggestions, focusing on the reasons and solutions, with systematic approaches seeking political development for the sake of just peace.

The second part of the “peace and political development” session was titled “popular participation and development”, with speakers Dr Arben Cici from Albania and Dr. Motaz Salamah from Egypt. The session delved into several topics, notably the importance and effect of popular participation in achieving peace, the significance of a peace culture in society and the importance of society’s participation in achieving a just peace culture.

My gratitude extends to all the employees and officials of the Abdulaziz Saud Al-Babtain Foundation for their kind invitation, warm reception, outstanding organization of the event and thoughtful selection of topics and speakers. It undoubtedly presents a bright image of Kuwait and Arab and international culture. May Allah bestow His mercy on Abdulaziz Saud AlBabtain and accept him into His heavenly abode.
