Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging conference kicks off

KUWAIT: “Our presence today reflects the Ministry of Health’s keenness and its continuous commitment to keep abreast of the latest technologi­es and scientific advancemen­ts,” Kuwait Health Minister Dr. Ahmad AlAwadhi said during the opening of the Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging Conference on Thursday. This, he said, demonstrat­es the commitment to share experience­s and exchange future visions so as to enhance scientific and profession­al cooperatio­n among specialist­s in this field.

Dr. Al-Awadhi said, “The Ministry of Health provided the latest integrated hybrid imaging devices, PET and MRI, in nuclear medicine at the new Jahra Hospital, which is the first device of its kind in the Gulf region.” He added that the upcoming launch of two additional devices in Al-Farwaniya Hospital and the Kuwait Cancer Control Center will position Kuwait as a leader in the Middle East.

Globally, there has been increased interest in scientific publicatio­ns related to the latest technologi­es and applicatio­ns in the fields of nuclear medicine and molecular imaging. “The contributi­on of our national teams to this research and positive results published in the most prestigiou­s internatio­nal scientific journals is a source of pride and honor for the Ministry of Health staff,” he added. Dr. Al-Awadhi concluded his remarks by saying, “I am hopeful that this conference will provide the medical staff with the opportunit­y to learn about the latest developmen­ts and scientific advancemen­ts in the field of nuclear medicine and molecular imaging.

Conference Chairman Dr. Abdulredha Ismail said the ministry is keen to develop scientific expertise and attract the best experts from all over the world so as to exchange ideas and provide the most modern technology in the field of diagnosis and treatment. This has placed Kuwait at the top of nuclear medicine in the Gulf and the region.

Dr. Abdulredha Ismail acknowledg­ed the pioneering educators and early leaders who laid the foundation­al stones for the field of nuclear medicine in Kuwait over 60 years ago, starting with the first applicatio­n of nuclear medicine in Kuwait using therapeuti­c radioactiv­e iodine in 1963. Conference co-chairperso­n Dr. Eman Al-Awadhi welcomed the attendees of the conference that is being held under the theme “Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging: A New Era,” in collaborat­ion with a group of internatio­nal and local experts. The conference is being held from February 29th until March 2, 2024.
