KUWAIT: National Bank of Kuwait (NBK) continues to support the “Let’s Be Aware” campaign launched by the Central Bank of Kuwait, in collaboration with local banks and Kuwait Banking Association (KBA) with the aim of promoting financial literacy and awareness among the different segments of society. In this context, NBK calls on customers to follow the latest publications and awareness messages provided by the bank through its various channels, to keep informed about the latest scams and how to avoid them, as scammers always use devious and changing schemes to steal customer information.

NBK shares educational content including video clips and text communications on all its social media and other digital channels to warn customers from fictitious investments whether in cash, commodities, virtual currencies or real estate. There are also other forms of fraud, such as tricking customers into investing in attractive stocks and bonds by promising highly lucrative returns, providing false information about a real investment, or enticing them to register their personal information on fake trading platforms to obtain profits.

Other examples include impersonating public figure and businesspersons on social media to trick customers that they provide financial aids, and requesting their banking information to deposit these aids, or calling customers directly and impersonating official entities from police or other authorities to steal their information. NBK always warns customers of all fraud types via SMS, e-mail or phone calls by sharing content on its social media platforms to warn customers from clicking ads with unknown sources, or those pretending to be from legitimate entities like banks or telecom companies share subscriptions ads concurrently with ongoing real subscriptions.

NBK affirms that it will never ask customers for personal information via e-mail, SMS or phone calls, warning them of responding to such messages representing fraud attempts to obtain their banking information to steal their money or data. NBK firmly believes in the importance of promoting financial culture among the different segments of society and increasing awareness on how to maximize benefit from its wide range of services via branches or digital channels, using its social media platforms, which are the most popular among Kuwaiti banks.

Regarding this as a crucial part of its strategy, NBK makes consistent efforts to educate customers. To this end, it always urges customers to strictly adhere with the general security instructions and tips to steer clear of online scams. It also advises them to change card PINs frequently and not to share them with anyone impersonating a bank employee.

The “Let’s Be Aware” campaign is the largest across the GCC region focusing on raising banking and financial awareness among banks’ customers. The campaign covers a variety of crucial topics including: anti-fraud tips, awareness on high-risk investments, ways to maximize benefit from banking services, promoting savings and investment culture, as well as other related topics.

It is worth mentioning that NBK is a key advocate and participant in all CBK’s campaigns and initiatives to increase financial and banking awareness among different segments of society. As a leading financial institution, locally and regionally, NBK frequently organizes various activities to raise awareness on all topics related to the banking sector, as well as many training courses for its employees to enhance their knowledge and expertise in the areas of combating fraud and financial crime.
