As part of the Gulf Week for differently abled people, the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR) organized a walkathon event for individuals with different abilities on March 3, 2024, at Al-Assima Mall in Kuwait City. The event is aimed at raising awareness and shedding light on the social responsibility towards this category of people, believing in their abilities and potential, and reinforcing KISR’s message of integrating differently abled people into the society and overcoming all obstacles that may hinder them to ensure their equality with their peers.

During the event, Kuwait Times spoke to Nourah Al-Gurair, Department Manager of Software and System Development in KISR, who said:

“We have a program that is specialized for providing people with technical support for differently abled people. This program started in 1985 and we are continuing to execute projects that assist and help these people to overcome their challenges. Differently abled people face challenges at different fields in their life such as education, employment, their daily life, and so on.

Therefore, we try to use technology to facilitate their adaptation to the environment.” She further elaborated: “As for today, we are holding a walkathon, which is a walking-sport activity for differently abled people. We do this yearly, except during the

COVID pandemic. Today marks our sixth walkathon, which we tend to hold at different places. This year, it took place in Al-Assima Mall in Kuwait City.” This aligns with Kuwait being a leading country in integrating people with different abilities.
