New subject ‘National Education’ introduced to foster patriotism

Kuwait’s IICO offers scholarshi­p funding to students in Malaysia

KUWAIT: The Minister of Education, and Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Dr. Adel Al-Adwani directed the formation of a committee to establish a new subject called “National Education,” aimed at fostering patriotic values among students. The Ministry said in a press statement Sunday that Al-Adwani decided to form a committee comprising specialize­d personnel tasked with identifyin­g the grades intended to teach this subject to students. The committee will develop a curriculum and teaching plan for “National Education” for each grade level according to set standards, the ministry added.

In another developmen­t, the Kuwaiti-based Internatio­nal Islamic Charity Organizati­on (IICO) offered funding for students in need studying in Arabic merit schools in Malaysia as part of the ‘My Right to Learn’ project. In a statement, the Developmen­t and Human Relief Society (INSAN) in Malaysia, which is implementi­ng the project and is registered with Kuwait’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said Monday that the project was funding hundreds of students in seven different Arabic schools across Malaysia.

The statement added that the ‘My Right to Learn’ project included more than 3,000 students who participat­ed in various activities and honored the top achievers with prizes and scholarshi­ps in the closing ceremony. In a previously recorded speech, IICO Deputy General Director Ibrahim Al-Bader affirmed the importance of funding such projects that help provide educationa­l opportunit­ies to students, which aligns with the organizati­on’s strategies. Counsellor at Kuwait’s Embassy in Malaysia, Bader Al-Sager, Dean of the Arab Diplomatic Corps in Malaysia, Ambassador Adel Bahameed, and other heads of charity organizati­ons attended the ceremony.
