Kuwait, League support political solution in Libya
KUWAIT: Kuwait’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday welcomed the recent meeting hosted by the Arab League, which aimed to support political solution efforts in Libya, paving the path towards eagerly anticipated presidential and parliamentary elections. In a statement released on Tuesday, the Ministry reiterated Kuwait’s support for all Arab and international efforts aimed at strengthening the unity, sovereignty, security, and stability of Libyan territories, echoing the aspirations of its people for peace, development, and prosperity.
The Arab League had hosted a meeting on the Libyan crisis with the participation of the President of the Presidential Council, Speaker of the House of Representatives, and President of the Supreme Council of Libya. They agreed that a unified government in Libya would be required for the supervision of presidential and parliamentary elections.
Meanwhile, Libyan officials have affirmed Libya’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity and rejected any negative external interference in the political process. This came in a statement by Arab League Secretary-General Ahmad Abul Gheit at the end of the leader’s joint conference, which was held at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States in Cairo.
They also stressed the necessity of forming a unified government to supervise the electoral process, provide the necessary services to the citizens, and unify positions in a way that ensures the activation of its role. They appreciated the League’s role in bringing the views closer in order to achieve the completion of the electoral process in Libya.
