Kuwait, UAE, Saudi and Iran top officials discuss women empowerment
NEW YORK: Kuwait Minister of Social Affairs, Family, and Childhood Affairs Sheikh Feras Saud Al-Malik Al-Sabah said that Kuwait and the UAE are pioneers in women’s empowerment on different levels. The remarks were made during the minister’s meeting with Vice President of the UAE’s Gender Balance Council (GBC) Mona Al-Marri in New York on the sidelines of the 68th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women, which kicked off last Monday and lasts until March 22. The minister hailed the strong Kuwaiti-Emirati relations, underscoring the need to enhance GCC cooperation in enabling and supporting women.
Also, Kuwait’s Minister of Social Affairs engaged in discussions with Iran’s Vice President for Women and Family Affairs, Ensiyeh Khazali,
regarding cooperation on family and women’s affairs between the two countries. The Kuwaiti minister expressed his wishes to further enhance mutual cooperation aimed at benefiting women in Kuwait and Iran in the future. He emphasized the importance of ongoing efforts to empower women, noting Kuwaiti women’s success across all sectors. Minister Khazali conveyed her vision to broaden cooperation towards institutional initiatives in the future.
Boosting partnership
Kuwait Minister of Social Affairs also held talks with Secretary General of the Saudi Family Affairs Council Maimoonah Al-Khalil on ways to enhance bilateral cooperation to protect the family institution. This came during a meeting at the premises of Kuwait’s Permanent Mission to the UN in New York. The officials engaged in discussions on mutual interests, particularly concerning women, such as achieving work and family balance for both genders and shoring up collaboration to improve the status of women in the Gulf region. — KUNA
