Barqa’s ju­niper nurs­ery

On 24 Novem­ber the Min­is­ter of Tourism, Michel Pharaon opened a nurs­ery of ju­niper trees and planted a tree in Barqa, Bekaa Val­ley, high­light­ing the im­por­tance of the trees in the re­gion, which are at risk of ex­tinc­tion. The as­so­ci­a­tion Mam­lakat al Lezzeb is de­vel­op­ing ru­ral tourism in the re­gion with a project that in­cludes three al­ter­na­tive lodg­ings and a fourth on the way, home­made food made by the lo­cal com­mu­nity and ac­tiv­i­ties such as hik­ing in Barqa, farm vis­its and ed­u­ca­tion about the ju­niper tree. The as­so­ci­a­tion aims to plant an­other 2,500 ju­niper trees in the next year, hope­fully help­ing to pre­serve the species' fu­ture in Barqa.
