De­sign for so­cial change

Upon grad­u­at­ing, Le­banese de­signer and il­lus­tra­tor, Salim Az­zam de­cided to use de­sign as a force for so­cial change, doc­u­ment­ing oral nar­ra­tive tra­di­tions and lo­cal cus­toms through his work. This year he’s part of Starch, an NGO that sup­ports new de­sign tal­ents. They will be ex­hibit­ing his work; shirts and dresses fea­tur­ing his il­lus­tra­tions, em­broi­dered by lo­cal craftswomen. Through the em­broi­dery, th­ese women tell their own sto­ries and the fi­nal prod­uct is Az­zam’s first fash­ion col­lec­tion, Sitt el Si­tat.
