Lon­don’s World Travel Mar­ket (WTM) in Novem­ber saw the of­fi­cial launch of the Phoenician Tourism Route, an ini­tia­tive by the World Tourism Or­ga­ni­za­tion (UNWTO), Min­istry of Tourism of Le­banon and Coun­cil of Europe. The route aims to boost tourism, in­ter­cul­tural ex­change and a cul­tural re­vival among the 18 coun­tries that share a com­mon Phoenician her­itage. At the WTM, par­tic­i­pants dis­cussed three pi­lot cul­tural tourism itin­er­ar­ies cov­er­ing the “Phoenician Ori­gin” (Le­banon, Cyprus and Greece), the “Pu­nics and the Sea” (Italy, Malta and Tu­nisia) and the “Ex­pan­sion” (France and Spain).
