This dessert is best when assembled just before serving. bake the cake up to one day ahead of time. split the cake into two layers after it is cooled and store in air tight container at room temperatur­e. Toss the sliced berries with the powdered sugar if desired and refrigerat­e until ready to use. whip up the whipped cream right before assembling and serve.
