BREGUET
CLASSIQUE EXTRA-PLATE 5157
By the time Abraham-Louis Breguet founded the namesake timepiece brand in 1775, he was but 28, and has earned some of the highest distinctions in his field, including the official title of chronometer maker to the French Royal Navy ‒ the most prestigious to which a horologist could aspire to. Having forged its success for more than 240 years afterwards, Breguet reveals one of the horological marvels in the form of the Classique ExtraPlate 5157, which features one of the distinctive hallmarks of a Breguet timepiece: the traditional “Clous de Paris” hobnail style, an engine-turning engraving technique favoured by master watchmakers from the 16th century onwards. The 38mm 18k rose gold case holds an extra-thin delicately fluted caseband (5.45mm), and upon the silvered gold engine-turned dial is the open-tipped hands in blued steel designed by Breguet in 1783, in which its slender elegance has won the term “Breguet hands” in the standard industry vocabulary.
