PLAYTIME GETS SERIOUS

Avant-garde heavyweight Junya Watanabe of Comme des Garçons and classic leather house Loewe team up for a capsule collection sure to titillate fans. Bonded by a mutual advocation for impeccable craftsmanship and simply producing incredible pieces, the collaboration reaped remarkable fruit. “I have liked Junya’s creations for a long time now and look forward to seeing his collection every season,” says Stuart Vevers, creative director of Loewe. “When I met him for the first time, he said, ‘What I usually like is far apart from Loewe,’ and I replied, ‘That’s why I want to do this.’”

Shares Watanabe of the joint effort, “The deciding factor for me in the selection of a collaboration partner was whether their factory had excellent know-how or not. Based on such criteria, Loewe is an attractive partner and what’s more, the timing was perfect because I’ve been looking for a leather factory. The collaboration came into being on condition that Loewe will manufacture a part of the Junya Watanabe collections in exchange for my participation on this project.”
