MOVIE MANIA
BAZAAR’s must-see films of the month.
A WINTER’S TALE
Through a mysterious invention, Peter Lake (played by Colin Farrell) goes back in time to save his love from dying. Making his directorial debut, Akiva Goldsman of A Beautiful Mind fame handpicked a golden basket of Oscar-winning actors such as Jennifer Connelly and Russell Crowe to help bring this story to life. It’s a supernatural love story that’s perfect for Valentine’s Day, one that will make you believe in true love all over again.
THE WIND RISES
Academy Award-winning Japanese anime marvel Hayao Miyazaki is back with his final feature-length film. Based on a beautiful 1937 short novel by Tatsuo Hori, The Wind Rises tells the tale of Jiro Horikoshi, an aircraft engineer remembered by his design of the Mistubishi A6M Reisen “Zero”, Japan’s famous World War II fighter aircraft. Like all Miyazaki films, there is always more to the story than meets the eye.
POMPEII
The ancient city is set to go up in flames again! In what would seem to be an odd collaboration, director of the famed Resident Evil series, Paul W.S. Anderson, joins forces with the creator of Downton Abbey, Julian Fellowes, to bring us the classic tale of a damsel in distress saved by her prince, while Mount Vesuvius erupts. Only this time round, he’s no prince, but a slave turned gladiator. Stars a smoldering Kit Harington and Emily Browning.
