SEXY TOMBOY

-

“Coco Mademoiselle never seems to really be there. In any case, she is never where you expect her to be,” says Knightley. Aptly, Wright picked The Zombies’ “She’s Not There” as the theme song for the third episode of the Chanel Coco Mademoiselle saga. “We tried to imagine what could have become of the woman on the motorcycle,” he explains. This time, Knightley teases her man at a launch party. She descends a gleaming staircase, aloof and mysterious. Catching sight of her man, she throws the fragrance towards her chosen one and the action begins. Wright keeps dropping innuendos in the short film: “As always, the adventures of Coco Mademoiselle are strongly based on the Chanel codes of style, but with a twist.” Imagine the iconic staircase in black and white, Knightley’s exquisite slinky white dress, and the signature CC initials. There is also a scene with the actress helming a speedboat down the Seine at sunrise as she slips away, once again, from the pursuit of her man. Knightley enthuses: “We shot this moment at 4am to see the

sun rise. It was sublime.”

“Joe is the first filmmaker who really believed in me. The first one who told me that he likes the way I act. Hearing those words when you’re only 19 is just priceless,” exalts Knightley. “Working with someone you know and who knows you just as well changes everything. We can create a story together more quickly. A glance is all it takes to get a message across.” Says Wright, “When I smell the fragrance, it is a bit of a tomboy, but sexy.” Vivacious and seductive, it is pretty much like Knightley, a tomboy at heart. “A friend gave it to me. Until then, I had never worn women’s fragrances as I found them too sweet or floral.” In 2011, a second opus was created. Wright and Knightley again teamed up to bring the mischievous Mademoiselle to life. “This girl controls everything. She likes to play with others, manipulate them,” describes Wright of the elusive beauty and her fearless spirit (In the campaign, Knightley raced across

Paris on a hot motorcycle).
