Mark Mak, senior stylist at A Cut Above, Parkson Pavilion KL

Harper’s Bazaar (Malaysia) - - Bazaar Hair Awards 2014 -

More than a decade in the industry has let Mark Mak master the art of hair colouring. Whether you’re looking for this season’s boldest hues or something au naturel, he will artfully mix you the perfect shade. Take your look up a notch by accenting a vibrant base with his signature highlights. For Mak, hair colour is all about being able to express yourself without uttering a single word.

Hidden within one of KL’s finest departmental stores, take a break from all that shopping and indulge in the luxurious treatments and services available. The pristine, minimalist interior sets the tone for a lovely afternoon filled with pampering and friendly banter with your stylist. Also, its private areas are perfect for those who enjoy exclusivity, or perhaps a little gossip with the girls!

Mak received his training from two Australian mentors when he first started his career yet he prefers to build on personal experience. He is currently inspired by classic hairstyles, especially those from the Greco-Roman era. “By adding modern colours to these antiquated hairstyles they turn out to be something special,” he notes. Paying close attention to all factors involved, he knows what will make or break a look and executes his work with unrivalled finesse.
