JUDGE’S STYLIST PICK CATEGORY: SMOOTH SAYER
John Lloyd, co-founder and artistic director of Ish Salon
HIGHLIGHTS
Only 24 but with eight years of experience under his belt, this young man certainly knows his craft. Based in Bangsar, John Lloyd has a great way with both Asian and Caucasian hair. He is valued for his honesty and ability to adapt to each client’s disparate needs. Lloyd infuses each appointment with his trademark modernity to edge up everything from ombres and balayages, to short crops, soft layers, and faded barber cuts.
SALON SPEAK
Established in 2001, Ish Salon is always buzzing with expatriates who go there for the impeccable service and expertise in Caucasian hair. As word spread, recommendations earned it a steady stream of local clientele as well. Recently refurbished, the salon’s brown walls with beautiful golden framed mirrors add a touch of sophistication.
NEED TO KNOW
Under the tutelage of Toni & Guy’s prodigies Michael Marriner and Ken Tan, Lloyd learns from not one, but two great mentors and continues to work closely with them at Ish Salon. That’s more than 40 years of experience combined. Currently on Lloyd’s style moodboard: “Models Jimmy Q and Ricki Hall.”
